Currently the touring guitarist with Brian Culbertson, Gerey has been a mainstay on the contemporary jazz scene for years as a musician, songwriter, producer and record company executive. With credits on over 75 nationally distributed records, you can hear Gerey's work on recordings from jazz artists like Steve Cole, Brian Culbertson, the "Sax Pack", and "Down To The Bone" to R&B artists such as Janet Jackson, Mary J. Bilge and Lisa Stansfield to gospel acts such as Yolanda Adams.
Gerey co-wrote the "smooth jazz" classic "When I Think of You" with Steve Cole and Brian Culbertson for Steve’s 1st album release and has written and produced for a number of smooth jazz acts such as Nelson Rangel, Jimmy Sommers, and Michael Manson. He’s had top 40 hits with R& B artists Lorenzo Owens and Tina More. Gerey has also produced music for Major League Baseball, Clear Channel Radio, Sony, Columbia, BMG and a number of indie Record labels.
Based out of Chicago, Gerey lead 2 bands, "Cool World" -- which Chicago Magazine called "the area's best contemporary jazz and R&B band” and Sumo, an "acid-jazz collective" which until recently has been playing steady Sunday nights at the Chicago club "the Elbo Room" for over 8 years. You can catch him on the BET on Jazz network performing at the Barbados jazz festival with Boney James, and on the Chicago FOX and WGN television affiliates as guitarist with jazz greats Kirk Whalum, George Duke, and the late Wayman Tisdale.
As a sideman, Gerey’s credits are rather extensive. Brian Culbertson, The Sax Pack, Boney James, George Duke, Warren Hill, Steve Cole, Down To The Bone, Michael Manson, Rick Braun, Paul Taylor, 480 East, Richard Elliot, Steve Cole, Jeff Kashiwa, Jimmy Sommers, Nelson Rangel, Kirk Whalum, Rahsaan Patterson, Brian Simpson, the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards and The American Smooth Jazz Awards recently held in Chicago.
When not on the road, the former A&R Director for the now defunct record label, A440 Music Group based out of Chicago, Gerey has been spending time in the recording studio working on his solo release, along with producing a project for lead singer and Saxophonist with Brian Culbertson, Marqueal Jordan. He is also in the process of establishing and opening a new jazz venue in Chicago! Whew, busy, busy!!
