Wayman first learned he had cancerous cyst below his right knee after he broke his leg in a fall at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 8, 2007. He later had knee replacement surgery and resumed touring and hosted The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2008. Wayman was still undergoing chemotherapy when he told the AP in June that "I feel better than ever. I'm excited. I've got a whole new look on life. I look at life on a whole 'nother radar."
Tisdale told the AP that his latest album, "Rebound," was inspired by his ongoing battle against the cancer. As Wayman has said "This may sound drastic, but I have put it in God's hands and now have peace, knowing that this is the best way to put this disease in check," he said. "I have complete faith that with the Lord's blessings this surgery will eliminate the cancer from my body and I'll soon be back on the road doing what I do best."
We have spoken to Wayman and he has told us that
“there is no way that I am going to miss my cruise. It is just too much fun and I cannot wait to see and greet all of my friends.”The Smooth Jazz Cruise is proud to announce that the one and only, two-time Grammy® winner Marcus Miller, will be joining us for the upcoming 6th Annual Sailing of what has come to be known as "The Best Party at Sea". As most of you know, Marcus Miller has been very influential in the development of Wayman's skills as a bass guitarist. What you may not know is that Wayman has coached Marcus on the art of basketball! One star teaching another star.
From his earliest days with Miles Davis to his famous collaborations with David Sanborn and Luther Vandross to his current world-wide fame as a performer, writer and producer, the world of jazz has no greater pillar than Marcus Miller. The legendary Miller was the host of last year's North Sea Jazz Cruise and will be the host the week following The Smooth Jazz Cruise on the Inaugural Playboy Jazz Cruise.
The camaraderie between Wayman and Marcus is infectious and there is no telling what musical heights they will scale and what surprises they will have planned for our guests. We are just thrilled and honored that the two of the biggest names in bass guitar will be on the same ship – be on the same stage, and will perform for our fabulous guests.
