Jonathan Butler's jazz-infused approach to R&B/pop has earned this outstanding singer / guitarist / songwriter / producer a distinguished place in the urban contemporary, adult contemporary, smooth jazz arenas, mixing R&B vocals with smooth instrumental soloing. Born in Athlone, South Africa, Jonathan became a proficient vocalist and guitarist by the age of six. He emigrated to London in 1985 at the invitation of fellow South Africans Clive Caulder and Ralph Simon, founders of Jive Records and was signed to the label. His self-titled debut album introduced him internationally and scored a Grammy nomination for the pop hit "Lies." An instrumental, "Going Home," earned a Grammy nomination and the mid-tempo ballad, "Sarah, Sarah," confirmed Butler's place in popular music.
