PORT-OF-CALL GUEST

Saxman Warren Hill shines as one of smooth jazz's most popular and exciting stars. Warren grew up in Toronto listening to classic rock records like Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Who, and the Rolling Stones. As a teenager Warren sneaked into local clubs, leading his basement rock band with his guitar and vocals. Warrenl had also played the saxophone since age 11. The horn grew to become the focal point of his life while spending a summer in New York studying jazz at the Eastman School of Music. Following graduation, Warren moved to Los Angeles in 1989 and immediately his demo tape began to circulate. His unique sax style spoke for itself and within six months the president of Atlantic Records signed him to a record deal.

Kicking his solo career into high gear, Warren played "The Passion Theme" on the 1993 Body of Evidence soundtrack, which shot to #1 NAC and Top 40 AC. At the same time he collaborated with Restless Heart on "Tell Me What You Dream" a #1 AC hit named R&R's most played song of the year. In 1994 his memorable solo on Big Mountain's reggae rendition of "Baby I Love Your Way" (from the Reality Bites soundtrack) jolted the song to #1 on Top 40 Radio worldwide, prompting him to guest star in their video and on the BBC's Top of the Pops. Later that year, Warren's third album TRUTH hit #1 NAC where it remained for six weeks as well as Top 10 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart. It also launched a year-long tour as part of the original cast of "Guitars and Saxes", the top-selling instrumental tour of 1995, during which time Warren was voted NAC Songwriter of the Year by SESAC. Warren's subsequent records have also reached the coveted #1 position, making him a staple in the smooth jazz world, and with this his 4th year performing on The Smooth Jazz Cruise.
